A Pig's Tale: Hog Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Leader.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miamiās Little Havana neighborhood.
āThe swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,ā Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a second term in office.
āUnless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,ā she went on. āI hope she experiences a long and happy life without fear.ā
The event, which both honors and questions the regionās Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The swine, provided by a first responder, was christened after the current slang trend of young people shouting ā6-7ā ā originating from a rap song lyric ā often without clear purpose. The craze became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently named āsix-sevenā its annual vocabulary selection.
A Future Secured
This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary āfar from charcoal and roasting pansā, according to the organizers' announcement.
āThe pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the end-of-year celebrations,ā said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.
āIt represents the character of Miami: joyful, diverse, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Every time, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.ā
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they celebrated Six Sevenās big moment.
