Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was expected for doubts to be asked about his position following another heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds suffered their 9th loss in twelve games, marking the club's poorest streak after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a tough evening at Anfield.

“I feel secure, I'm fine, I have got significant backing from above,” the coach remarked.

“It would be great to reverse this trend and get a victory of course but when you're coaching a team and underperforming then it is normal that doubts arise.”

He noted, “I am OK with my role. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it is about time that we turned it around.”

Talks with The Board

When asked to provide details on his dialogues with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:

“We communicate frequently. They are supportive to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me all the time of the day to say they have faith in me.”

He added, “In the normal exchanges I sense the confidence. However I've not talked to them since this match yet so it remains to be seen.”

Familiar Failings and Squad Reaction

The manager expressed regret over known failings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his view of the current crisis.

“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones said.

“It is unacceptable. I don't need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”

He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”

“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a spell like this with results like these.”

He finished, “However we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And until it is removed, we’re always going to compete.”

“Our aim is to help the side return to its rightful place, show everyone once more what this club is about and why people call it the top club in the world.”

“But right now, things are bad and it needs to change.”
